Logistics UK welcomes Scotland/Europe ferry plans
[ March 6, 2025 // Chris Lewis ]Logistics UK has welcomed reports that a ferry service between Scotland and France could be restarted, possibly as early as 2025. Head of trade and devolved policy, Nichola Mallon said a new direct sailing would increase freight connectivity and expand route options for exports to mainland Europe.
A spokesman for DFDS is reported in the local press as saying that a freight and passenger service could start in the second half of the year, although some subsidy would be required from the Scottish government.
DFDS was the last operator of a direct Scotland/Europe ferry route, but closed its Rosyth/ Zeebrugge freight service in 2018 after a vessel fire, saying it was unable to source an alternative ship.
