Low volumes could blunts US port strike, says FourKites

[ November 10, 2023   //   ]

Labour unions are warning of a possible East Coast port strike next year but the impact could be limited, says visibility firm FourKites.

It says that will the region has some of the country’s largest metropolitan areas and ports, 2024 is expected to be a relatively slow market and the chaos this would create is less than what it would have been if a strike had taken place a year ago. However, shippers still need to take into account potential long lead times.

FourKites adds that in the past two years, East Coast ports have captured import volume from West Coast ports as shippers looked to avoid backlogs and delays. While volume is likely to shift back West over time, the threat strikes might accelerate this.

It adds that with the Presidential election in 2024there could be more potential disruption.
