Maersk maintains haulage schedules despite port problems
[ October 26, 2018 // Chris ]Maersk says it has been able to deliver 89% reliability for inland haulage, despite the recent congestion in the UK’s major container ports. It said its success was due to its flexible network, and careful planning and its advice to customers, said customer service director at Maersk UK and Ireland, Rose Coulson.
UK container ports experienced severe congestion in September and October after problems with a new IT system in Felixstowe. The problems then spilled over into other major box hubs such as Southampton.
Coulson also urged customers to rethink their transport operations, saying: “Normally, more than 70% of the haulage we do takes place in the morning, so wherever possible, we would advise customers to consider afternoon loadings and therefore avoid rush hours. To facilitate this, we have ensured that our booking day lasts longer. In addition, they can continuously check haulage availability, which is updated in the system at least once a day.”
