Maersk merges Latin America routes

[ May 24, 2018   //   ]

Maersk Line is to merge its CRX Central America, Caribbean and Europe service with the ECMS route operated  by its recent acquisition, Hamburg Sud. It said the move would reduce capacity in line with current market needs “in response to challenging market conditions”.

Chief operating officer Soren Toft explained: “By merging Maersk Line’s current CRX service and Hamburg Sud’s EMCS into one we will bring greater stability to the trade by reducing capacity, while continuing to deliver value for our customers. It will allow us to better allocate our cargo mix and address current projected bunker price increases.”

The updated route, which calls at Tilbury in the UK and Cork in Ireland, will include a call at the Moin Terminal, Costa Rica, when it opens in early 2019. Other calls include Altamira and Veracruz in Mexico, Big Creek (Belize) and Manzanillo (Panama).
