Maersk offers sea-rail solution to central Asia
[ September 15, 2023 // Chris Lewis ]Maersk is offering an ocean-rail service between Europe, the US and the Far East to central Asia. It focuses on Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, and will be the basis for further services to neighbouring countries such as Turkmenistan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan. Services operate via the Georgian port Poti from where cargo is transported by rail to then across the Caspian Sea to Aktau and from there to destinations in Central Asia such as Almaty, Astana and Tashkent again by rail. Maersk is also offering last mile connections in Georgia, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, and Kazakhstan through a dedicated trucking pool.
