Maritime launches Tilbury-Manchester train
[ July 19, 2022 // Chris Lewis ]Maritime Transport has launched a rail service between Tilbury2 ro ro terminal near London and Manchester’s Trafford Park Euroterminal, in partnership with P&O Ferries, which operates freight only ferries to and from Zeebrugge.
The DB Cargo-operated train runs five days per week from Monday to Friday and can carry 45′ pallet-wide, 40′, and 20′ deep-sea containers – a total of 80 TEU in each direction.
Maritime says the service will remove over 20,000 lorries from UK roads per year.
Maritime recently completed a two-year £13.5m redevelopment scheme at Trafford Park Euroterminal, which included repaving the container park, upgrading buildings, security and six new heavy-duty reach stackers for loaded container lifting and four empty container handlers). The container park can now store up to 4,000TEU.
