More areas added to Russia’s TIR ban
[ October 7, 2013 // Chris ]The creeping extension of the Russian TIR ban is continuing, with the restrictions also being applied to the Privolzhsky Customs Directorate, the International Road Transport Union reported on 2 October. The IRU said that the move would particularly affect the Bashkortostan, Nizhegorodskaya, Orenburg, Perm, Samara, Saratov, Tatarstan, Ulyanovsk and Privolzhskaya areas. Although the exact scope of these measures is not yet known, customs offices concerned are likely to refuse to proceed with TIR operations without additional guarantees.
In late September, Russia extended its restriction on TIR guarantees to the Ural Customs region, as well as restrictions in the Siberian and far east regions, imposed on 14 September. The move will affect the Chelyabinsk, Khanty-Mamsyisk, Koltsovo, Magnitogorsk, Tyumen, Uralskaya Operatyvnaya, Yamalo-Nenets and Yekaterinburg regional customs offices.
Russia had originally intended to impose the TIR restriction over the whole country on 14 September, but this has been postponed until 1 December.
