One of DP World Southampton’s quay crane handled a record 535 boxes in a 12 hour shift on the appropriately named vessel OOCL Southampton on 30 October. The port said its quay crane rates had risen by almost a quarter during 2011, thanks to changes to working agreements, systems and equipment deployment. Earlier this year DP World Southampton also set another productivity record on the OOCL Southampton with a total of 176 moves per hour over the total vessel call.
