New awards celebrate female talent
[ May 9, 2012 // Chris ]Networking and support group, Women in Logistics UK, has launched two annual to celebrate the talent in the industry. The winners will be announced at the Women in Logistics Ball on 6 July.
The Jean Haslam Woman of the Year (Individual Award) is open to any logistician who challenges pre-conceptions as an outstanding role model in a male-centric industry.
The Women in Logistics Company of the Year (Corporate Award), will be awarded to a company in the UK logistics sector who has most impressed the judges over their commitment and innovation in attracting, developing and retaining women at all levels.
The Woman of the Year award is in memory of Jean Haslam, who, in 1972, was the first woman to become a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Transport.
She helped the US army to support the development of Burtonwood into its cold war logistics centre for Europe and she won international recognition for her brilliant cost saving initiatives.

The Women in Logistics Ball and award presentation is on Friday 6 July from
19.00 at Chesford Grange Hotel, Kenilworth, near Warwick, CV8 2LD All proceeds will go to Transaid. Tickets are available at £80 per head.
