New captain for Cargolux
[ March 26, 2014 // Chris ]All-freighter airline Cargolux has finished its search for a new leader with the appointment of Dirk Reich as president and CEO, replacing Richard Forson, senior vice president and member of the executive committee, who had assumed the role of interim CEO since 3 August 2012. Forson will continue to serve as senior vice president and chief financial officer.
Reich was previously been a member of the management board and executive vice president at Kuehne & Nagel and before joining the forwarder held various positions with Lufthansa and the VIAG German industrial conglomerate.
The move should bring to an end a turbulent time in the Luxembourg-based airline’s history, which has lately included the departure of 35% shareholder Qatar Airways and the eventual purchase of a similar stake by China’s Henan Civil Aviation Development and Investment.
Reich said: “There will be challenges ahead, but I can rely on the support of a highly professional and engaged team and look forward to my new mission with great anticipation and confidence.”
Reich will also assume the responsibilities of senior vice president sales and marketing while global executive search firm Spencer Stuart finds a permanent replacement.
Cargolux has also appointed a new executive committee. Henan senior advisor Robert Song joins as senior vice president Asia and Pacific; he previously held senior management positions with Air New Zealand Cargo and AirBridgeCargo Airlines.
Marcel Funk has been promoted to senior vice president, head of flight operations and Onno Pietersma to senior vice president maintenance and engineering.
