New chair for Rail Freight Council
[ April 25, 2014 // Chris ]The Freight Transport Association’s Rail Freight Council has elected John Carpenter, national rail manager of Lafarge Tarmac as its new chairman, taking over from Ken Russell. Carpenter will take over the post from at the April council meeting, and will play a key-part in taking forward the work of FTA’s Rail Freight Council working with its “Agenda for More”, performance metrics and benchmarking, and reduction of Channel Tunnel freight train access charges to promote modal shift and the carbon agenda.
The Rail Freight Council’s objectives include more flexible services, pooling of traffic to create viable train loads, continuous improvement to reduce costs and maintain competitiveness and more rail freight terminals
Sainsbury’s transport strategy and development manager Simon Polmear will become the new vice chairman of the Council.
