New device keeps containers connected

Cargo technology firm Nexxiot has unveiled a gateway device for intermodal shipping containers that it says will revolutionize traceability and visibility of assets. The Globehopper Edge is a self-sustaining, zero-maintenance wireless connectivity device capable of transmitting thousands of data points every day from multiple onboard sensors that transmit information such as precise location, temperature or environmental conditions. It can communicate in real time with Nexxiot Connect, the company’s Cloud-based software solution. The device is solar powered and has a guaranteed lifetime of more than six years. The device is fitted to the outside of a standard shipping container and can be connected within 90 seconds, says Nexxiot.
