No restart yet for Brittany Ferries routes

[ February 19, 2021   //   ]

Brittany Ferries is to extend the suspension of some of its services due to the continued stringent travel restrictions for passengers. Four ships that are currently laid-up, but which it had hoped to reinstate in late March, will not now resume service until mid-May at the earliest, it says.

Services including those from Poole to Cherbourg, Portsmouth to St Malo, Portsmouth to Bilbao, Portsmouth to Santander, Plymouth to Roscoff, Plymouth to Santander and Cork to Roscoff will not now restart.

However, a number of routes will continue to operate, primarily for freight, including Rosslare to Cherbourg, Rosslare to Bilbao, Portsmouth to Le Havre, Portsmouth to Santander, Portsmouth to Cherbourg, Portsmouth to Caen and Portsmouth to Caen.

Brittany Ferries says it will remain a predominantly freight-only service for now. However, the sector accounts for only 20% of its normal annual turnover.

In 2020, the company secured a €117 million loan from French banks to carry it through the most difficult period in its history.
