Northern Ireland customs checks halted after threats

[ February 3, 2021   //   ]

The Prime Minister spoke to Northern Ireland First Minister Arlene Foster on the morning of 3 February, after it emerged that border post staff at Larne and Belfast were withdrawn from the two ports on Monday after threats were made against them.

Checks were suspended after graffiti appeared on walls opposing the Northern Ireland Protocol and suggesting that border control staff could be targeted. Staff reported suspicious activity including attempts to gather information such as vehicle number plates.

The Prime Minister restated his commitment to Northern Ireland as an integral part of our Union and said he would do everything to ensure trade continues to flow effectively.
