Pakistan TIR goes live
[ October 12, 2018 // Chris ]The Pakistan International Chamber of Commerce (PNC-ICC) issued the first TIR carnet this week to Pakistani transport operator, TCS Logistics on 12 October.
It follows recent meetings in Istanbul between Afghanistan and Pakistan where they agreed to initiate test operations from Karachi to Kabul and vice versa.
There are now plans to use TIR on more transit routes from neighbouring countries including Pakistan and Iran to Central Asia.
Next steps include the activation of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) under the TIR system, which will connect China with the Middle East and Africa.
The Istanbul-Tehran-Islamabad trade corridor saw the first inbound TIR operation from Iran to Pakistan earlier this year.
