PD Ports to build North Lincs centre for Barrett Steel
[ November 14, 2022 // Chris Lewis ]PD Ports is to build of a 200,000sq ft dedicated distribution centre at its Groveport site in North Lincolnshire for customer Barrett Steel as part of a new long-term contract to 2040 and beyond.
The £10 million facility will support the Barrett’s growth and the port operator will also double the size of its dedicated transport fleet to allow just-in-time deliveries across the UK.
Family-owned Barrett Steel operates over 30 sites nationwide.
The 190-acre Groveport site is the largest in PD Ports’ Humber Cluster. PD Ports chief commercial officer Geoff Lippitt says it is the largest single piece of investment in the site since the company first acquired it in 2015
The warehouse will be the first building in the UK to be constructed in XCarb steel made using 100% recycled content and 100% renewable energy – supplied by PD Ports customer, ArcelorMittal.
