Reborn Ellerman to link Tilbury with China and US
[ November 29, 2022 // Chris Lewis ]An Essex-based company is to launch regular services from the UK and Europe to China and the US under the long-defunct Ellerman name. Ellerman City Liners is operating a fortnightly service between Tilbury and Shanghai, Ningbo, Shenzhen (Da Chan) and Ho Chi Minh and is to add a transatlantic route serving Antwerp, Rotterdam, Tilbury, New York, Wilmington, and Jacksonville.
Founded in the 19th century by John Reeves Ellerman, Ellerman became one of the most recognizable names in shipping. However, the company suffered a change of fortunes, in line with much of the rest of the British shipping industry. Until 1991, it traded as Cunard-Ellerman before selling the name to Andrew Weir Shipping.
