Rhenus opens Heathrow chilled site
[ March 13, 2024 // Chris Lewis ]Global forwarder Rhenus has opened a temperature-controlled perishable handling facility at London Heathrow that will allow it to store and build airfreight containers and pallets within a temperature-controlled environment.
It has 2,195sq m of floor space and two racking layers, giving a volume of 1,209 cubic metres of produce, all at 0 to 8°C.
Screening capabilities include dual view X-ray and an electromagnetic inspection scanners capable of scanning up to 30 pallets per hour.
Rhenus can also provide customs clearance, certificates of conformity and origin, phytosanitary certificates and pick and pack services.
Rhenus inaugurated a Rhenus Fresh team in the UK in 2023, headed by George Mead, who commented: “This investment expands our unique selling proposition, appealing to a wider range of customers seeking temperature control for various products. Additionally, we are equipped to transport items with a slightly prolonged shelf life, requiring storage and subsequent export, including segmented ocean shipments.”
