Rhenus signs Middle Corridor deal
[ June 20, 2023 // Chris Lewis ]Rhenus Group signed a memorandum of understanding with Kazakhstan Railways (National Company Kazakhstan Temir Zholy) on 20 June to enhance transshipment capacity in Caspian Sea ports. The two companies aim to help strengthen the Middle Corridor route between Europe and China that passes south of Russia and has become increainsgly important following the sanctions imposed on Moscow.
The partners will work together to plan for logistic centres in the Caspian Sea region as well as on increasing freight turnover along the Middle Corridor. Other topics include technical and advisory support for the design of a container hub in the port of Aktau and assistance in attracting transit cargo.
The Memorandum was signed in Astana in the presence of German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, who was in Kazakhstan on an official state visit, and the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kasym-Schomart Tokayev.
