Ro ro up as Zeebrugge sees cargo surge

Ro ro traffic at the port of Zeebrugge roses 3.7% in 2019 to nearly 16.5 million tonnes with growth to Ireland (+6.3%) and Spain (+153.1%), thanks the Santander connection by Cobelfret and the scaling-up of the Finnlines connection to Bilbao. Deepsea roro also increased by 13.9%.

However ro ro traffic to and from the UK decreased by 2.5% and there was a shift of cargo to Irish destinations.

Total traffic was up 14.2% to 45.8 million tonnes.
