Updated: Russia bans food from West
[ August 7, 2014 // Chris ]Russia placed an immediate ban on a wide range of food imports from EU, US, Australia, Canada and Norway on 7 August, including fruit, vegetables, meat, fish, milk and dairy products and said that it was in talks with Belarus and Kazakhstan to prevent western foodstuffs reaching Russia from there. Russia’s move appeared to be in response to an EU ban on Aeroflot’s budget airline subsidiary as part of EU sanctions its support for rebels in Ukraine. The European Commission said the ban was “clearly politically motivated.”
Containerships, which operates several services to Russia, said that any banned goods discharged in Russia after the Government order must be immediately evacuated and it would not discharge any container containing banned commodities at St. Petersburg, Ust Luga or any other port. It would return banned containers to the port of loading and costs would be passed on to customers.
