Samphire Cargo – a sister company of Birmingham-based Simpex Express – has acquired ACT Forwarding and Logistics.

Founded in 1986 by managing director Tony Ball, Dover-based ACT employs nine staff, who will now join the Samphire team.

The acquisition strengthens Samphire’s customs clearance capabilities. ACT enjoyed significant success during the Brexit transition through its customs clearance expertise, and the synergies with Samphire are expected to boost both companies’ growth and offer enhanced services to clients in the UK and EU. Its capabilities including out-of-gauge import services requiring site visits, police escorts and specialised equipment, providing customs clearance for excise goods and personal effects.

Samphire recently expanded into France, opening an office in Lesquin , near Lille.

Tony Ball – said: “I quickly realised how closely our company values and activities aligned, and felt they were a safe pair of hands to take the reins. I take great pride in what we’ve achieved at ACT and wanted to ensure the business and team were protected in the future. I have full confidence that the combination of personalities, experience, and services at Samphire will safeguard the longevity of our team, clients and business for many years to come.”

Samphire Cargo managing director, Gary Smith-Watson  added: “We are incredibly excited to begin working with the new team. The diverse customs expertise shared between both teams will undoubtedly benefit all of our clients. Samphire also has the advantage of the newly opened office in France, which will offer new services to ACT’s existing clients.”
