Schenker poised for Manchester move

[ September 19, 2023   //   ]

German forwarder DB Schenker has bought a 2.3 acre site at Trafford Park for a new Manchester facility due to open later this year.

Catering to air, ocean, land and contract logistics it will more than double the size of its existing facility with almost 50,000sq ft of warehousing and office space.

Employees are due to relocated in the autumn.

Once established at its EPC A-rated facility, DB Schenker aims to actively recruit across a variety of roles from sales to warehouse operatives and will continue to support its apprenticeship program in the UK.

DB Schenker’s ocean director UK and Ireland, Adrian Jennings, said: “Our intention with the opening of our new facility in this important part of the country is to continue to invest in infrastructure and people. Our operational model is constantly evolving and we clearly intend this facility in Manchester to be part of our future. We shall look to strengthen our team further with top quality talent.”

The new facility will contain an X-ray machine for screening air freight and designated zones for consolidating shipments on all transport modes.

Half the roof area will be covered by solar panels and at ground level there will be electric charging points for electric trucks and staff vehicles.

Staff welfare will be catered for with a treadmill, gym equipment, and a pool table and there will be a quiet space for meditation, mindfulness and reading.
