Scots timber keeps the lights on in Kent

[ May 23, 2024   //   ]

The Port of Dover Cargo Terminal has received its last consignment of wind-blown timber from Scotland this season, as part of its partnership with timber harvester Euroforest which began a monthly vessel call into Dover last year.

The timber is largely comprised of natural wind blow from Storm Arwen in 2021, and is transported from Aberdeen by coaster to Dover where it arrives two days later.

Each 2500-tonne shipment saves the equivalent of 57,000 truck miles, offering vast carbon savings. Deliveries for 2024 were up 38% over the previous year.

The timber carried by the monthly service is collected and transported to Kent Renewable Energy, a combined heat and power plant in Sandwich that generates enough green energy to supply 50,000 homes.
