Silk Way signs cargo village deal
[ November 25, 2024 // Chris Lewis ]Silk Way Alat Free Economic Zone Company – a dedicated entity of Silk Way Group – has signed a design and build agreement with Modern Construction Group for the development of the Silk Way Cargo Village.
It follows the unveiling of plans for a new cargo airport in the Alat Free Economic Zone. The plans, revealed at the COP29 summit, held in Silk Way’s home country, Azerbaijan, in mid-November, include a 4,000-meter runway and taxiway, 18 aircraft stands, individual forwarder warehouses, airside perishable facilities and office buildings.
Modern Construction will design and construct the cargo terminal, a Silk Way office building and a shared freight forwarder facility.
Managing director, Jawad Dbila, said: “The fully automated 30,000 square-meter cargo terminal, the largest in the Caspian Sea region, will set new standards in sustainable construction and enhance trade connectivity between Europe and Asia, solidifying Azerbaijan’s strategic role in the global logistics network.”
Director of Modern Construction Group, Arif Guliyev, added: “We are honored to collaborate with Silk Way AFEZCO on this transformative project. Our expertise in delivering complex infrastructure projects will ensure that the Silk Way Cargo Village becomes a sustainable beacon of Azerbaijan’s logistics ecosystem.”
