Simpex tips the gender balance
[ October 11, 2022 // Chris Lewis ]Fast freight firm Simpex Express says that it has achieved a near-equal female/male split in its workforce following an enlargement of its team after Brexit.
Nationally, women make up around 47% of the UK workforce, yet in the transport sector this falls to 20-30% with only 15% were in top management positions, says Simpex. The transport and logistics industry is not a traditional employment pathway for women and suffers from poor perceptions of its career opportunities.
Managing director Simon Beechener said that without consciously trying to balance this between men and women, women now just tip the balance at 53%. He added: “In a male-dominated industry this is significant and I hope this serves to champion women in logistics and set an example of where the industry can go.”
