Sixth ship to beef up P&O Dover-Calais route

[ July 20, 2015   //   ]

P&O Ferries is to bring a sixth ship back into service on the Dover-Calais route to boost freight capacity during the peak summer season. The European Seaway with a capacity of up to 120 freight vehicles – will return to the Dover-Calais route for the peak season from the beginning of August and is expected to make eight sailings a day.

The line’s commercial director, Janette Bell, said: “The European Seaway will give us more capacity, and better equip us to support our freight customers, at a time when cross-Channel traffic is increasing in volume. By freeing up freight space on our five other Dover-Calais ships, it will also enable us more effectively to carry tourists between Britain and France during the peak summer season.”

Earlier, rival carrier DFDS Seaways said in mid-July that it was continuing to divert a fourth ship to its Dover-Dunkirk service as a result of the strike by former MyFerryLink workers which was preventing it from operating a full service into Calais.
