Spot the signs to stop slavery

[ September 29, 2017   //   ]

Crimestoppers has identified transport and warehousing as two sectors where modern-day slavery can occur. The charity is partnering with the Gangmasters and Labour Abuse Authority (GLAA) to help the UK public spot the signs and try to stamp it out.

It says that slavery takes a variety of forms, many of them openly in public . It predominantly affects vulnerable people and immigrant populations with a bias towards industries such as transport, warehousing, nail bars, car washes and agriculture.

Signs to spot include signs of injury, abuse and malnourishment; unkempt people or those who appear to be  under the control and influence of others.

Other signs are personnel being collected very early or returned late at night on a regular basis. They may have inappropriate clothing for the work they are performing, and a lack of safety equipment.
