Spanish storm set to disrupt seasonal deliveries
[ November 6, 2024 // Chris Lewis ]Container dwell remains volatile as ports resume operations following Storm Dana in eastern Spain, potentially impacting peak season inventory, says visibility specialist Project 44. Valencia, Barcelona and Algeciras, all key for European global trade, are particularly affected, it says.
Import dwell appears to be the most affected by the storms, with no processing of import containers at all on many days. Export dwell times have also increased across all three ports.
Senior vice-president of global professional services, Tom Perrone, commented: “As if the ongoing strike action and economic volatility were not enough to worry businesses ahead of the peak holiday retail season, Storm Dana, and the recent spike in extreme weather, are heightening pressures for supply chains.
“In the current environmental climate, with extreme weather becoming the norm, organisations must become more agile to beat the disruption and avoid lasting impacts; data insights are key to this.”
