Stena brings symbol of peace to Belfast

[ September 16, 2019   //   ]

Stena Line owner Dan Sten Olsson has applauded the unveiling of The Knotted Gun sculpture in Belfast by the Non-Violence Project Foundation (NVPF). The city will join New York, Tokyo, Stockholm, Cape Town and Berlin in hosting a permanent version of the work, thanks to a donation by the ferry operator.

The original was created by the Swedish artist Carl Fredrik Reuterswärd for his friend John Lennon after he was shot in New York in 1980 and which has since become an international peace symbol.

Olsson commented: “Northern Ireland is a very important region to Stena Line and we have a long history and relationship with the community here. Since we moved our ferry services to Belfast in 1995, I personally and our company have established a bond with the City of Belfast and its people…I can say that Belfast is a good place to do business and hopefully we can leave a positive and lasting legacy – and not only on the commercial front.”
