Stena welcomes road plan

Stena Line has applauded the Secretary of State for Transport’s green light for a link from the M6 to Heysham, the terminal for its two daily freight sailings from Heysham to Belfast. Head of freight UK & Ireland, Richard Horswill, Stena Line’s said: “Although it has been many many years in consultation, confirmation that the Heysham Link Road will finally become a reality is very welcome news indeed. Not only will the new scheme result in reduced journey times for our hauliers but it will also increase the daily operational radius from Heysham.”

The proposed scheme is a 3 mile dual carriageway. Work is expected to start in July this year and is due to be completed by late 2015.
