Swire to start Pacific Islands service

Swire Shipping and Matson have signed a new vessel sharing partnership from New Zealand to Tonga, Samoa (Apia), Cook Islands and Fiji. The service will depart every 10 days from Auckland, using three 8,000dwt vessels, from January.

Last November, Swire’s parent company China Navigation and the University of the South Pacific (USP) signed a memorandum of understanding for feasibility studies to develop a new class of small cargo freighter to provide a cost-effective solution for currently marginalised communities in the Pacific Island Communities and Territories.
