Technical fix could solve Ireland problem, says pro-Brexit group

[ September 12, 2018   //   ]

A report by pro-Brexit Conservative MPs European Research Group has suggested that a hard border on the island of Ireland could be avoided by using established technology and modifying existing arrangements. They argued that technological issues had been used to block political progress.

They called for co-operation between the UK and Itish governments to address smuggling concerns and for customs processes to be included in VAT returns.

The group suggested the border between Norway and EU/Sweden as a template for post-Brexit arrangements in Ireland.
