Tilbury is best on paper for UPM

Forest products firm UPM is to centralise its shipping of paper and plywood to the UK from the Finnish ports of Rauma and Kotka on the port of Tilbury from the beginning of next year.  The move would improve supply chain efficiency and bring greater service reliability, said the company.

UPM have signed long term partnership agreements with Tilbury (London Paper Terminal) and shipping operator Transfennica

The move will also allow Transfennica to re-start its service from Rauma to Tilbury, with two weekly arrivals in the port from the beginning of next year.

Perry Glading, chief operating officer of Tilbury’s owner, Forth Ports, said: “The Port of Tilbury has a long relationship with UPM going back to more than 15 years. This further consolidation will place Tilbury at the forefront of handling imported paper into the UK as a place of performance excellence in this sector of our business”, he continues.

Transfennica managing director, Dirk Witteveen, added: “Since the opening of the Finland Terminal in Tilbury in 1999 Transfennica has been calling Tilbury at least weekly, and we are happy to further strengthen our UK service.”
