Tunnelling from Wales to Germany
[ November 20, 2019 // Chris ]Recent work by outsize cargo specialist Abnormal Load Services has included a project to move a tunnel boring machine and its accessories from Bleddfa in Wales to Germany (main picture). The machine had completed the Knighton tunnel for Severn Trent, allowing it to divert water away from the Victorian Elan Valley Aqueduct so repairs could be carried out.
It also arranged a ship charter to move 5,000 from Bremerhaven to Esbjerg in Denmark for an offshore wind project, the heaviest of which weighed 170 tons.
ALS also completed a 900-transport project over 2½ weeks to move military vehicles between bases in Belgium, Germany, Netherlands, Lithuania and Romania (picture below).
The team has also been involved in handling inland distribution in Scandinavia for major construction original equipment manufacturers including a decommissioning project for a Scandinavian company in the Far East.
