UAE to introduce TIR
[ June 26, 2014 // Chris ]The UAE is to introduce the TIR System across its territory. The guarantee agreement was signed by acting director general of Abu Dhabi Customs, HE Mohammed Khadim Al Hameli, and President of IRU Member Association, the Automobile & Touring Club of the United Arab Emirates (ATCUAE), Dr Mohammed Ben Sulayem on 24 June.
Dubai and Abu Dabi customs will benefit initially from TIR and similar agreements with the remaining five Emirates are expected to follow in coming months, with ATCUAE seeking to have TIR fully operational in the near future.
The International Road Transport Union (IRU) said transport times and costs across the region would be reduced, including through the ports of Abu Dhabi and Dubai. Electronic pre-declarations to Customs, real-time traceability of TIR Carnets and efficient risk management through the TIR System would also help make border procedures faster, more secure and user-friendly.
