Uniserve’s Ellerman City Liners signs slot-share deal with MSC
[ December 4, 2023 // Chris Lewis ]Ellerman City Liners – the liner shipping operation launched by Essex forwarder Uniserve in 2022 – has signed an agreement with MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company to use a portion of the latter’s capacity along with its own independent vessel between Northern Europe and the US East Coast.
The agreement includes a set weekly volume, with an option for Ellerman to increase as required and covers dry cargo and reefers from January 2024. It covers routes between ports in Sweden, Poland, Lithuania, Germany, UK, Belgium and France, and ports from New York to Florida. It also includes the capacity to extend services to include routes around the world.
Uniserve launched the liner service under the long-defunct Ellerman name in November 2022, initially with a fortnightly service between Tilbury and Shanghai, Ningbo, Shenzhen and Ho Chi Minh and a transatlantic route serving Antwerp, Rotterdam, Tilbury, New York, Wilmington, and Jacksonville. It also offered short-sea services between Teesport, Tilbury, Rotterdam, Cadiz and Setubal and between Gdynia in Poland and Teesport and Tilbury.
Ellerman commercial director, Peter Andrews, said: “This agreement allows Ellerman to operate with greater efficiency, reducing our environmental footprint whilst also broadening our geographical scope in both Europe and the US.”
MSC senior vice president, Pasquale Formisano, added: “This agreement is all about efficiency. Guaranteed cargo means we can operate at maximum capacity and, therefore, minimise the environmental impact of each TEU we carry.”
