Unite targets Uniserve in London Gateway protest
[ August 22, 2013 // Chris ]Unite activists were due to stage a protest at Uniserve’s Tilbury depot on 22 August in its continuing dispute with the nearby DP World London Gateway port over union recognition. The Uniserve site was chose, says the union, because it has confirmed that it plans to set up operations at the new port.
Unite regional officer Jane Jeffery said: “The protest today is aimed at highlighting the fact that London Gateway could drain employment and business away from other UK docks. Unite believes that the refusal to recognise the union at London Gateway will mean a race to the bottom in employment conditions. that could also threaten the future viability of other container ports.”
