United Kingdom rules the waves

[ September 29, 2017   //   ]

OOCL has christened its latest 21,413teu TEU G class containership – currently the world’s larges – the OOCL United Kingdom – the fourth of six ordered from Samsung Heavy Industries in Korea.

Her first European port of call will be Felixstowe on the LL1 service from Shanghai, Ningbo, Xiamen, Yantian and Singapore via the Suez Canal.

In 1990, the largest containership in the world at the time also celebrated her first European port of call on her maiden voyage to Felixstowe – but the OOCL Hope was a mere 3,500teu.

While six times larger, the OOCL United Kingdom only burns 60% more fuel per day.
