Vietnam limits box weight to 20 tons
[ May 21, 2014 // Chris ]The Vietnamese government hs introduced a new law (effective from 1 April) 2014, limiting the total combined weight of 20′ and 40′ containers to 20 tons including the tare weight of the container, reports BIFA in its latest newsletter. Enforcement will be rigorous, according to BIFA’s advice with mobile weighbridges deployed on highways across the country; so far 800 trucks have been fined for being overweight.
The new weight limit has meanwhile led to port congestion as boxes have had to be restuffed within the dock gates.
