Waterford goes greener
[ April 3, 2019 // Chris ]Ireland’s Port of Waterford has bought three new zero emissions Nissan LEAF electric cars to move pilots and marine personnel on both sides of the Suir Estuary. They are part of a wider drive to reduce environmental impact which includes renewable energy sources for heating energy-efficient quayside lighting. Solar panels have also been fitted on the roof of the port’s headquarters at the Marine Point office development in Belview.
Chief executive Frank Ronan said: “We are very conscious of our carbon footprint and recognise our particular responsibility as a commercial State company to play our part in the sustainability agenda. To benchmark our progress, we are now working towards environmental certifications.”
