We’re already busy with vaccine shipments, says AirBridge Cargo

While the airline industry gears up to transport millions of Covid vaccines later this year or in 2021, AirBridgeCargo Airlines (ABC) has already been busy.

The all-cargo carrier is moving 840 tonnes of equipment for production lines for vaccine containers from Frankfurt to Atlanta on board its 747-8F aircraft in partnership with German forwarder Streck Transportges and equipment maker, Zahoransky.

ABC global pharma director Yulia Celetaria said: “It is amazing to realize that the equipment we transport today will facilitate the production of more secure plastic vials made of COP which we might be delivering later with COVID-19 vaccines inside, once the Phase 3 trials are finalized.”

It is expected that more than 50% of COVID-19 vaccines will be air freighted with the major manufacturing regions being located in India, China, UK, US and Europe. ABC and its fellow carriers in the Volga-Dnepr Group has been gearing up its capabilities for vaccine transportation through temperature mapping of all freighters within its fleet.
