WestJet hails ‘Awesome’ Mexican deal
[ November 23, 2023 // Chris Lewis ]B737 freighter operator WestJet Cargo has signed a deal with Mexico’s Awesome Cargo to connect the latter’s hub at Felipe Ángeles International Airport in Mexico City with North America.
Awesome Cargo gained an Air Operator Certificate from Mexico’s Federal Civil Aviation Agency on 13 October 13 and has already operated 17 missions with two A330 freighters, bringing over 800 tons of humanitarian aid into Acapulco.
The partnership includes reefer trucks for temperature-sensitive cargo, implementation of temperature-controlled facilities and horse transfers between Mexico, the US and Canada.
WestJet senior vice-president cargo, Kirsten De Bruijn, said: “This collaboration brings together two visionary cargo airlines, weaving our strengths into an innovative tapestry of enhanced services for Awesome’s Cargo customers. We’re thrilled to embark on this journey with Awesome Cargo, unlocking endless possibilities for both organizations and setting new standards in the industry.”
Awesome Cargo chief executive Luis Ramos added that thes partnership was a significant milestone: “By uniting forces with WestJet Cargo, we not only expand our reach into North America but also contribute to the evolution of air cargo transport in the region. Our shared values and commitment to excellence make this collaboration a dynamic force in the industry.”
